Stephen Howard is known for his contemporary nonrepresentational landscapes.  His use of light and colour is particularly distinctive along with his use of intense colour. In recent years he has spent a lot of time in Fiordland as is very evident in his body of work. Howard's art is infused with a gentle spirituality leaving a lasting emotional impression upon the viewer.
