Sean is an Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland-based artist who paints New Zealand landscapes and places, mainly in oil. His style leans towards painterly with a modernist feel, swinging between representative and abstract.
Since Aotearoa became his new home in 2007, he has travelled up and down the country photographing landscapes and scenes from the far North to the deep South. Later, these journeys became the inspiration and material for Sean’s paintings. His compositions always originate in the photography of the landscape and Sean uses the viewfinder as a primary canvas, deciding if the emphasis will be on emotionality, light, form or colour.
