John Z Robinson
Ōtepoti Dunedin
John Z Robinson is a painter and jeweller - apprenticed to a jeweller at the age of 17 and began working with metals again several years ago. He deliberately fixes himself very limited parameters, such as using little equipment: within such boundaries, he believes, there is an enormous amount of things he can achieve. Robinson's necklaces consist of big domed silver and gold beads, his rings incorporate local stones such as agate, pounamu or Coromandel carnelian. In his brooches he draws on his printmaking experiences, transcribing many print-like designs through such techniques as blackening parts of the surface or polishing.
