Jeremy Leeming
Ōtautahi Christchurch
Jeremy Leeming gained a diploma in Craft Design at Otago School of Art in 1992. He spent three years learning a range of practical jewellery-making and design skills under the guidance of established jewellers David Mcleod, Kobi Bosshard and Blair Smith. Leeming them completed an apprenticeship working with well-known NZ contemporary jeweller/silversmith, Jens Hansen. Leeming’s motivation for creating his work is to find simplicity in form. He endeavours to create work with clean lines using a simple palette of metals, precious and semi-precious stones. Leeming is fascinated by the enduring qualities of New Zealand jasper, argillite, basalt and nephrite. Using techniques of lapidary he works on each piece individually, ensuring that each form is created in sympathy with the material.
