Dorthe Kristensen

Jeweller Dorthe Kristensen came to New Zealand in 1999 and now lives in Aro Valley, Wellington. Born in Denmark in 1972 Dorthe was influenced by her father, a blacksmith. At 17 she left Denmark to study jewellery and design at the Sir John Cass School of Art in London, England. Then following a three year apprenticeship in Copenhagen, Denmark she graduated as a goldsmith in 1998. Now settled in New Zealand, Dorthe has developed her own unique contemporary style of jewellery. “My jewellery relates first of all to the organic forms of nature. I combine my passion for the art and craftsmanship of goldsmithing with colour, stones, and unusual shapes. My Nordic minimalism - detail quietly enhancing the beauty of the materials - joins with the strong colours of the South Pacific”.
