Di Tocker

Kemureti Cambridge

Di Tocker is a Glass Artist working from her purpose-built studio in Cambridge, Waikato. Di has been in full-time studio practice for the past 12 years honing glass casting skills and developing a strong language within her Sculptural Cast Glass.

Born in Auckland, 1971 and educated in Tauranga, Di was fortunate to discover her love of glass at the early age of 18. Since then Di has always created works in glass, firstly in leadlight as a hobbyist. This passion led Di to seeking work in the glass field, eventually becoming a designer consultant at a large leadlight manufacturer in Melbourne.

Di completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (major Glass) in 2002 at RMIT University in Melbourne – this is where she discovered the method of Lost Wax Casting Glass and started to focus her work on the human form. Now most of Di’s work is focused on the human form, relationships and communication.

Di’s work has been selected for the prestigious Australasian Ranamok Glass Prize in 2011 and her work Stick to your Knitting won the Swarbrick Dixon award for Excellence in Glass at Re-Fraction Glass exhibition in 2010. In 2014, Di won first prize and people’s choice awards at Auckland’s Easter Show Art Exhibition for new works from her Rooms series.

Di creates Cast Glass Trophies for prestigious NZ organisations annually – University of Waikato, SOLGM (Society of Local Government Managers), Civil Contractors Waikato and the NZ Tourism Industry Association.
