Ann Culy

Ōtepoti Dunedin

Ann Culy’s rings and earrings are forged from her favourite alluvial gold, or pure silver. The effect is a hand-worn look, malleable and soft defying the properties of the metal. The addition of opals and moonstones, organic in form, express the beauty of accidental variation. Her brooches are miniature narratives where playful encounters between dancing figures texture the silver, their forms cut out in negative or etched on to the surface. I find making jewellery to be a varied and involved job. I enjoy the range from intense isolated work at the bench when concentration is full on, to the interaction with people discovering a piece of work that suits their style.
