Opening night:
Friday 30th May, 5pm – 7pm
Pipe Dream incorporates two distinct series of works created with extruded porcelain. Pieces ooze with materiality and tactility; their ridged forms carefully outlined to create structural uniformity that is contrasted against tumbling chaotic forms.
The Rumple series are floating woven discs of matte porcelain where every flaw and detail is highlighted to create a high contrast graphic wall relief. The addition of fluorescence behind the work reflects against the wall to produce a glowing pink halo.
The food-inspired series ‘Fare’ is a clear contrast, with their shiny glass finishes and somewhat haphazard construction slumping, intertwining, slipping and flopping. These works are made up of individually extruded and glazed pieces which are fused together over multiple firings; the kiln taking control over their final form. The outlining of snapped ends makes us conscious of what the extrusions may contain and helps tie the two series together.
