These works emerged from an ongoing dialogue with the natural world, where painting is a form of listening as much as making. Built through layered observation, notation and intuitive response, they draw on symbols, marks and fragments collected in studio journals—small systems of language that accumulate over time. Rather than describing landscape, the paintings respond to its rhythms: shifts in light, pattern and atmospheric presence — the vitality or HUM of a place, held through a softened, light-sensitive palette that carries a sense of warmth and luminosity.

Forms appear and reappear as if spoken or heard—utterances, staves, and visual phrases that hold a sense of structure without fixing meaning. Within this process, abstraction becomes a space of attention and softness, a way of staying with perception. It offers a place to slow down and remain close to the act of noticing, allowing imagery to form through attention rather than fixed description.

In a time of increasing external noise, I find myself turning towards slowness, warmth and observant looking — a way of staying close to what feels alive and sustaining.

In the studio, this translates into a kind of ongoing conversation with the surface, where I respond, build and place more deliberate elements as they emerge.
