Kate Fitzharris

Homeware

01 - 31 August 25

Opening night:
Friday 1st August, 5pm – 7pm

Kate Fitzharris has an ongoing interest in the cultural and geological histories of clay and ceramics.

‘Homeware’ references her research into how clay as a wild substance, simultaneously finely ground minerals and mother earth, finds its way into our domestic lives. Alongside commercially available clay bodies, Kate works with found materials in these pieces, often gathered on walks from locations near her home in Waitati. She acknowledges the significance of working with these earth materials and the value in making and maintaining connections with place. She says, "if we consider the very intimate aspects of our domestic lives alongside the immensity of geological time, we are reminded that we are part of something much bigger than ourselves and hopefully this translates to us taking better care of each other, and the world around us".
