Richard Adams

Dimensions

28 - 17 April 25

Opening night:
Friday 28th March, 5pm – 7pm

Richard Adams’ Dimensions takes a measured, geometric approach to abstraction. In a composition of primarily rectangles and intersecting horizontal and vertical lines, the interspersed circular shapes evoke sun, moon, and planet. Sketched lines indicate the presence of hidden, obscured objects – like human life itself, the imagery is shaped by forces both physical and intangible.

An artistic exploration that tracks through stacked shapes, colour theory, and nods to cartography – like maps and records of a sailor’s journey merging with the hazy impressions of scenic views and treasures found, turbulent weather, the powerful pull of the moon and the changing tide. The composition keeps the eye and mind constantly in motion, with overlapping borders and interrupted shapes, certain shades receding, others appearing to press forward.

The technique and application behind his abstracted, geometric blocks of colour are incredibly distinctive. There’s a subtlety and smoothness to the physical blending of pigments that instantly identifies itself, to the point where a literal signature is almost irrelevant. His skill and artistic voice are embedded in every brush stroke and tonal gradient.

If you closed your eyes during an eclipse, the lingering view of the land and sky in your mind might look something like an Adams canvas – colliding impressions, overlapping angles, and encroaching shadows.
