Opening night:
Friday 6th March, 5-7pm
There is a story in every thing we see, all you have to do is give it the space to speak. That is what “Background Stories”, my current exhibition at Gallery 33, invites you to do. In a world that wrenches our attention with a myriad of ever-moving stimulus, vaporising just as quickly as it appears, my works embrace you with visual stories that ignite your curiosity and let you explore on our own terms. I utilise colour, space and form to take you on a visually lyrical journey, the narrative changing based on your own interpretation. Like all stories, the background sets the tone.
A linear gradient gives you the space you need to decipher, while the soothing colours trigger internal stories - both within yourself and the works you observe.
While the background is slowly created with intention and anticipation, the foreground is released with full-bodied vigor. Where there is no separation between body and work. Where movement is transformed into a powerful vortex of brush marks and pours.
The longer you sit with each artwork, the more detail it unfolds. What does it say to you?
